What?

Road trip | Wine Tasting

Where?

Barossa Valley, Tanunda South Australia 5352

Duration?

2 days

My first road trip in Australia started in Adelaide, South Australia. Two Dutch girls, Linda and Robin (whom I met on the Leconfield Jackaroo School) and I rent a car and decided to discover the wine region of Barossa Valley. We left Sunny’s Backpacker Hostel on December 4th and after 1,5 hour we arrived at Tanunda where we had some lunch in Heinemann Park. Afterwards we went to an information centre to have some advice about good wine tastings. There was so much winery in the region that it took us 30 minutes to decide which one to visit. Grant Burge Winery on Krondorf Road was the chosen one. We had a nice wine explanation and tasted different red wines.

Barossa Valley, Tanunda South Australia 5352

My first road trip in Australia started in Adelaide, South Australia. We left Sunny’s Backpacker Hostel on December 4th and after 1,5 hour we arrived at Tanunda where we had some lunch in Heinemann Park. Grant Burge Winery on Krondorf Road was the chosen one. We had a nice wine explanation and tasted different red wines.

After the wine tasting we went for some sightseeing. We stopped near Williamstown for the famous whispering wall. Basically it’s a water reservoir where the wall has a length of 140m and a height of 36m. Nowadays the dam is really famous for its acoustic attraction. We say it has a parabola effect. The voice can be heard from one side to the other. We tried and it is pretty unbelievable how clearly you can speak to each other from end to end of the dam. We finished our sightseeing at Manglers Hill were we had a lookout over Barossa Valley. This spot is one of the most popular lookouts in the area with some stone sculptures around. We spent the night at Discovery Holiday Parks. For dinner we had some burgers on the barbecue and played some pool table! After the food and the fun, it was time to get some sleep in the car for our next adventure in the Flinders Ranges.
